Our Purpose

Open education has the potential to enhance learning and teaching at all levels in Australia.  The challenge, however, is that awareness levels, and understanding, of openness still remains low.  The Australian higher education sector faces increasing pressures, and practitioners often need to rely on professional or informal networks for support and learning.

Shaping the SIG

In preparation for the first meeting, we’re interested in the needs of the membership, and the direction the SIG needs to take to become a meaningful group to promote, and support OEP in Australia.


Inagural Meeting 2018

Setting the Date [First Meeting]

Carina and I sent out an email today inviting people to the first meeting.  We want to ensure as many people as possible can make it, so please vote on the Poll to help.

Dr Carina Bossu

Dr Carina Bossu is a Lecturer (Learning and Teaching) with the Tasmanian Institute of Learning and Teaching at the University of Tasmania. Her current work and research is primarily focused on Open Educational Resources (OER) and Open Educational Practices (OEP) in higher education, more specifically issues related to learning, teaching and professional development. Previously, she was a Research Fellow with the Distance Education HUB (DEHub) at the University of New England.  Carina has been the recipient of four Office of Learning & Teaching competitive grants exploring OEP, and was recognised in 2017 as a Fellow of the Australasian Society for Computers in Learning in Tertiary Education (ASCILITE).

Adrian Stagg

Adrian is the Manager (Open Educational Practice) at the University of Southern Queensland, and is a confirmed PhD student at the University of Tasmania.  He is a member of the Global Open Graduate Network (GO-GN), co-Country Champion (Australia) for the OER World Map, member of the Executive Committee of the Open and Distance Learning Association Australia (ODLAA), and host of the open education podcast The Other Fifty Weeks.
