Australasian news   

  • Congratulations to our OEP Digest editor, Ash Barber from University of South Australia, who has been awarded the 2022 Libraries of the Australian Technology Network (LATN) Fellowship with her proposal: Empowering librarians throughout the Asia Pacific to facilitate a greater presence of minoritised voices in pedagogical practice through OER. This opportunity allows Ash to explore practical solutions in one of LATN’s key themes of open scholarship and OER through a study tour of North America.  
  • An open archive of learning and teaching research: A partnership between Universities Australia Learning and Teaching Repository Repository and the Student Success journal and associated STARS Conference is investigating the value of indexing and linking to current open access (OA) learning and teaching research.   • News from ANU: ANU has published Australian Economic History: Transformations of an Interdisciplinary Field by Claire Wright. 
  • News from USQ: USQ has published two new open texts – Statistics for Research Students by Fein et al., and How to Do Science by Louise Lexis and Brianna Julien, which is an adaption of La Trobe University’s orginal open text.  
  • News from CAUL: Dr Amanda White from UTS has been announced as the first keynote for the Enabling a Modern Curriculum Conference.  
  • Remote Job Opportunity with Wikimedia Australia: Project and Communications Coordinator at Wikimedia Australia. Applications close 10 July. 
  • Remote Job Opportunity with Open Access Australasia: Open Access Australasia is looking for a fixed-term part-time Project Officer. Applications close 10 July.  

International news   

  • Open Access Week Theme: The Open Access Week Advisory Committee announced that “Open for Climate Justice” is the theme for this year’s International Open Access Week, which will take place on October 24-30. This year’s focus on Climate Justice seeks to encourage connection and collaboration among the climate movement and the international open community. Tackling the climate crisis requires the rapid exchange of knowledge across geographic, economic, and disciplinary boundaries. The theme announcement was launched in sync with the new OA Week website where you can find all the information on the theme, dates, and more. 
  • Open Education Global Awards: Nominations for the Open Education Global Awards are now open. Call for nominations close 31 July. Nominate and recognise your favourite OER or open practitioner. 
  • Zero-Textbook Cost Pathways for Adult Basic Education Students in B.C: BcCampus reflect on their Zero-Textbook Cost Pathways for Adult Basic Education Students project. 
  • From Nigeria: The National Universities Commission (NUC) recently shared that its Open Educational Resources repository currently has over two million resources. The resources are in a variety of forms such as courseware, lecture notes, textbooks, videos, maps, podcasts, conference presentations, and journals. Established in 2017, the facility which is maintained by the Commission is currently held by 153 Nigerian universities. According to the Commission, the OER repository was established as part of efforts to revitalize the academic content of the nation’s Universities as well as improve the quality of teaching and learning.
