Webinar #2: Authentic assessment as a pathway to professional practice

Rebecca Cairns, Lecturer, School of Education, Deakin University.

Linda Guthrie, Teacher Librarian, Thebarton Senior College

Abstract:

This webinar will explore embedding OER-enabled pedagogy that supports authentic assessment practices. Join us to compare perspectives from both higher education and the school classroom, discovering new pathways from pre-service to in-service teaching.

Education academic Rebecca Cairns will present a case study on OER-powered “renewable assignments” and outline the benefits of open education in school and teacher education settings. You can read more about Rebecca’s open book project, co-authored with pre-service teachers, Historical Thinking for Senior Secondary Students in its introduction.

Teacher librarian Linda Guthrie will talk about opportunities for evaluating and using OER in schools to design digital content that is uniquely tailored for school teaching. She will explore possibilities for collaborations between teachers and librarians to enhance sustainable resourcing of the curriculum.

Linda Guthrie is a teacher librarian with experience working in primary and secondary schools. Linda has been active in her work with a range of associations including the Children’s Book Council of Australia, School Library Association of South Australia, ALIA School Library Advisory Committee and the ALIA School Libraries PD Project Expert Reference Group.
