Recruiting a Co-Convenor (Research) to the SIG

As the SIG continues to grow, the membership has identified the need for one of our Co-Convenors to focus on building our research profile. Contributing to Australasian research in openness has been a long-desired outcome, and our recent meetings have indicated it’s time to realise that purpose.

The SIG takes an activity-based approach to the Co-Convenor roles, with each seeking to deliver tangible outcomes. This position will join the Co-Convenors for the Digest Team, and the Webinar Program.

Importantly, establishing these positions provides the opportunity:

  • For members to actively contribute within a leadership position
  • To build skills and share knowledge that benefit the SIG membership
  • To signal to members and external parties the key areas of activity for the SIG
  • To distribute workload as the SIG continues to grow in size

Additionally, the position will liaise with ASCILITE to determine support for research activities (for example, organising guest speakers), and identify (with the membership) opportunities for funding.

Responsibilities: This position will liaise with ASCILITE for the purposes of accessing resources/training for the community (if available) and identify opportunities for member professional development (working with the Co-Convenor Webinars to suggest speakers, for example), identify sources of funding as appropriate, and coordinate collaborative research activities that lead to at least one conference paper submission at ASCILITE and one journal article submission to an open journal. These activities will be a ‘pilot’ and reviewed during the second year of office. The position will also report to the membership as part of the monthly agenda at each SIG meeting.
